Like Eve, you and I can be deceived; robbed of happiness and fulfillment. She was expelled from the comfort and hopefulness of her happy life and marriage and home. She never saw the Garden of Eden again; all expectations of her personal power, comfort and happiness were gone, and it was her fault!

How could this happen? The serpent came near saying intriguing, tempting things, but she didn’t know that he was her arch enemy. He flattered her and lured her away from wisdom and a secure future. He lied to her.

“It won’t happen to me!” But it can happen in your world too. Something sinister inside your tired head talks to you, saying, “It’s all about you; demand your own way.” Who is that? Where is that voice coming from?

And like Eve, we have a decision to make. Will we look to the wisdom that God has already provided for us — the Bible? Or will the desire for prominence and our short range demands for immediate satisfaction seem more important?

God had clearly told Adam and Eve what not to do: “Do not eat of that tree, for in the day you eat thereof you shall surely die.” But the serpent said, “You shall not surely die.” And in true short-range fashion they didn’t die, not right away. In short-range fashion: it was all about them.

But stop and think about it: there is so much reason to obey the LORD. He is personal. His plan for you is unique as every leaf on a tree and your good future as certain as the next sunrise.

Make your decision: “Prove [try it out, and verify it is so] what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12)

Life is not all about you – but — it is all up to you!
