As it says in Genesis 1:27 God created mankind in his own image, “male AND female he created them”. (emphasis added)  From this we see women have equality with men. It is not sameness for sure, but the counterpart perspective of a woman is the other point of view in the world: her insight, gifts and experience create balance to a world dominated by one sided thought – – if only men – – or if only women.

Equality of women with men is certain because there is no greater or lesser “image of God”. Not sameness for sure: just look at your body. But God has designated a unique kind of power and equality of significance to women and to men. Both are given the same opportunity for closeness to Him, both have innate gifts. Women as men have unique personality and brain power; it is part of being created in God’s image: we have spirit, soul and body.

Through past dark ages women lost their privileged position as equal to men. Only slowly has respect as equals and freedom begun to return. Inspiration from the head, heart and soul of a woman should be heard, seen and experienced in the world!

Maybe power and freedom was lost partly because women did not trust their wisdom, understand their significance and step up. Did our mothers know how they possessed a vital perspective others needed both in the culture and their marriage?

Men and women have equity in status yet men and women exhibit different emphases.  She may emphasize compassion, perspective that goes for the details, comfort, friendship, loyalty (even at times to a fault), knowledge, and how to create warmth.  These many times are emphasized from the head, the heart and soul of women. She brings the joy of another realm of the mind . . . sometimes soft assurance just by being there. If you look at history, women’s contributions often are touched with compassion.

Women, we need to know this. We need to step up, but not with arrogance!  It was arrogance in elements of the Church and the culture that diminished the balance of power in the first place. There is a way to step up effectively; the Bible encourages it: “speaking the truth in love”. (Ephesians 4:15)

Step up. Take a chance with your gifts.
