FORGET THE PAST; LOOK AHEAD

“I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.” (II John 2:12)

I am among those who have regrets plenty. Red faced, embarrassed, I am tempted to look back, dwell on them. But I have decided to quit that! I will look ahead because I’ve been given permission in Philippians, “. . . one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.”

If the failures, hurts and indignities laid on you by others or brought on yourself, loom like a gathering storm, look forward. God is there. “A new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines.” (I John 2:8)

God will be in your future if you ask Him to be. When a certain familiar fear threatens your heart and mind again, very purposefully quote this verse: “Submit yourself therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:7, 8) Peace comes when I say it out loud or only in my heart.

The Word of God is “alive and active” in you. (Hebrews 4:12) Use this powerful technique at the moment a storm brews in your soul.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:12-16) Emphasis is mine.

Be ready for the next time that old familiar downward spiral begins and stop it. Memorize the “quick and powerful” verse. With this you are ready day or night. A positive mind is being planted in you.
