It begins as a “burden” in your chest; you almost feel it. Something is awry; the direction of your marriage…or a decision your husband is about to make…is just not wise. What do you do?
Do what the Holy Spirit does inside your own mind and heart: counsel your husband with your best wisdom. Keep it simple, truthful, short! Speak the truth in love.
I’ve come to think that the Holy Spirit is characterized by the woman in a marriage. The marriage is three: God, man and woman. The Trinity is three: Father, Son, and Hold Spirit. Mankind is in the image of God, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Gen 1:27)
Many throw up their hands! What? You think women reflect the Holy Spirit? God is male! The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit, the Trinity: God is always referred to in the masculine gender. “Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name…”
But it is Scripture itself that affirms the woman’s significance: “…male and female created He them.”
Create a winning persona, develop your character, and grow wise as you imitate the Holy Spirit. God will be there, as he is for all believers. You will have a profound effect on your husband, your household and the world in which you move.
Go ahead with your intuition: reflect the ministry of the Holy Spirit, especially to him! To that man you married. Live your life reflecting God. “Be…followers (in Greek: imitators) of God as dear children.” (Eph 5:1)
Speak up with courage. Offer your best counsel. He may resist in the beginning. But as he considers this different perspective he will make a better decision. Even if the conclusion is the same as it would have been before, it will be more comprehensive. He will learn to look forward to this other perspective that blends with his: the two of you coming to a new solution neither one would have thought up alone.
You are gifted, innately gifted by God with that ability to stand face to face, to relate mind to mind, heart to heart. Why else would God have said that you would be a “help meet” for him, that you two would be “of one flesh”? When you come together in heart and mind and soul, your future is secure…God made you for this! You possess that counterpart perspective that he will never know or understand unless you share it with him.
